New Scala remote library example

I wasn't sure if this should go here or in the https://github.com/robotframework/RemoteInterface list of servers. Figured I would give this a try first. Maybe this can be added to the External Libraries on https://robotframework.org/#libraries ?

Hi,

As you said, this is an example how to repurpose Java remote server to work in Scala, rather than a library that does anything functional or an implementation of the remote server interface in Scala. The example is also a bit bare-boned, if you compare it to the Jaspers' tutorial you draw inspiration from.

@pekkaklarck is there a natural place for this on the site?

I am working on adding more keywords that experiment with Scala Native's C interop and Ammonite. Also going to be adding in sbt and Docker capabilities as well. I am not done with this project yet.

Would this fit in the "Other" category on robotframework.org ?

Oh you can interop with C and Java in Scala? I didn't know about that! That would be really cool to list under Documentation > Demos; what do you think, @jg8481?

Yes and I think that there is Javascript interop as well. But don't quote me on that. I just started trying to learn Scala. There is some really powerful stuff in it.

Sure I can add this where ever you or Pekka think is appropriate.

An easy way to do a demo is to build a (very) small demo application that you then test partly with keywords written in Scala and partly with keywords written in C.

If you are missing a smallish hobby project, taking what you have to something I described above would be I bet a fun thing as well as hugely valuable contribution to the open source ecosystem of Robot Framework.

So if you'd be up for it, I don't think there's emoji to show how elated I would personally be.

Although I have very rudimentary grasp on Scala, I could help you along in general about project structure as well as any questions you have about Robot Framework itself.

Actually @Tattoo that is an excellent idea. This month I am diving into a bunch of example projects, and I love experimentation. Drawing a lot of inspiration from Li Haoyi. When I have something more concrete I'll post an update here, and check-in with you and everyone. Right now I am trying to wrap my mind around sbt and making sense of the build.sbt and setting up a standard Scala project/... that will create a server jar the same way the Maven pom file does it.

@Tattoo I have made more updates to this library that are probably enough for a demo? Here is a brief summary.

• Created a Docker container and docker-compose file that will build a simple Scala Native application and run the Robot Framework Scala Remote Library to test the native executable.
• Created a working example of a Scala Native application that will take text from the command line and pipe it into a text file. Unfortunately I am still trying to figure out the C code keyword part (I am getting closer maybe in a few more days), but the Scala keywords seem to be working well. Especially the ScalaCheck parts.
• Created a working Ammonite Library POC. Improvements and experiments will be ongoing. One of the interesting advantages of the Ammonite Library is that it does not require Maven to compile or run. Changes to the Ammonite Library can be done while the Scala keyword server is running. In general Ammonite has many capabilities. For example it has the scalaj-http library already built-in. I am also thinking of more ideas after looking at the OpenNLP Ammonite samples. The following has more information --> http://ammonite.io
• Created a working ScalaCheck keyword driven by the Ammonite Library POC. I am using it for two different types of tests, a fake web API and the Scala Native executable.

Here is a screenshot of two ScalaCheck keyword results after fuzz testing the fake web API (https://jsonplaceholder.typicode.com/) and the Scala Native application running in a Docker container.

@Tattoo I have an update. I finally finished the C keywords. I placed them in a Scala Native executable that performs memory and CPU checks. I will be adding more to these tests soon.
